Scars - Link and Sheik

Quickie drawing. I've been coming up with ideas lately--mainly in regards to Sheik. Impa doesn't wear a mask to cover her face, so why does Sheik? Is it a male thing, or is it a Sheikah thing, or... is there something he's hiding? Wanna get simple, maybe he's hiding a scar. Wanna get in-depth? Maybe Sheik is actually nothing more than a spirit, a ghost, a phantom, a memory. Maybe he's hiding the scar from the wound that killed him. Sounds like FFX, I know, but... it's a good theory, right?

P.S. Don't tell me that Sheik is a girl. Or that he's Zelda. Let me remain blissfully ignorant.

Link gazed up at the night sky, his eyes alight, movements relaxed and muscles wonderfully un-tensed for once. It was times like these, he decided, that gave him the courage to fight so bravely, to risk his life with every new temple. He gazed over at the peacefully slumbering Sheikah beside him, then slowly sat up. The face cover was gone. In fact, all of the Sheikah's clothing was strewn about carelessly nearby.

Link sighed. He'd never seen Sheik's face. Despite many attempts to do so, many times he'd wanted to leave the lights on while the man undressed himself, many times they'd been unbelieveably close and he thought, just for a moment, that he could see the lower half of the blonde's face... every time had been a severe disappointment. All this time, and he'd never caught a glimpse. With Sheik sleeping peacefully now, though, he thought he'd found his chance.

Brushing aside some of the hair that always seemed to obscure his face, he caught sight of a smooth cheekbone, and was just examining those soft lips when Sheik suddenly sat bolt upright, arm coming up to knock Link's hand away.

Sheik knew what he was trying to do. Despite all of his efforts to avoid just this situation, something similar always arose. And now Link was peering at Sheik's back, trying to understand what all of it could mean. Sheik watched a hand come from behind him, hovering mere centimeters from his face, as if wanting to touch him, to turn his face so that he could be seen. The hand hesitated.

"Why won't you ever show me your face?"

I'll leave the rest unspoken. I think I kind of like writing little mini-fics to explain what's going on in my pictures. ^^
